Service your heating and boiler before Winter
It is worth getting your boiler and central heating serviced before winter comes to your door. This will rectify all leaks and common boiler faults. Set your boiler heating mode a bit higher
When the temperature and weather outside turn for the worse, adjust your boiler settings to your needs. This means turning up your boiler thermostat a little higher.
Bleed your radiators
Bleeding radiators is a simple thing to do for anyone who would like to improve their central heating efficiency during the winter. Removing of air from your rads will improve water circulation in the system, which means a warmer home and lower cost of energy bills.
Power flushing
If your central heating is old and has become inefficient over time then get your local heating engineer to power flush it. Only flushing the system with chemicals and using a strong pump will sort out clogged pipes and radiators. They will then run smoothly and be more efficient.
Keep your condensate pipe from freezing
Get your gas engineer to check your boiler condensate pipe. To keep the pipe away from cold temperatures, simply put some insulation on it. There are many diferent insulation types on the market these days. Foam pipe insulation should do the job. If you can do a bit of DIY then cut it to size and wrap it around the pipe. This should prevent the pipe from freezing and reduce the risk that your boiler stops working or working incorrectly.

Make sure your carbon monoxide detectors are up to date, have batteries and work correctly. If for some reason you don’t have them then you need to buy them. They are inexpensive and easy to install.
